atomicity test: referred seperately?

Table of Contents

A good test for atomicity is whether a portion of the entity would be frequently refered to seperately, without need/mentioning of the other part.

1. example

When I first have the idea of vicinity of primitives, it is a part of selection of primitives, as one of the interesting properties a set of primitive would have.

At first I reference “selection of primitives” when I mentioned vicinity, but later I find myself using the idea of vicinity a lot without using much of other properties of “selection of primitives”, so I made a seperate zettel for “vicinity”.

atomic

An entity is atomic when it cannot be split further; any further categorization would not make sense.

“Arithmetics” could be sensibly categorized into “plus, minus, devide, multiply”, but devide “multiply” futher into “term 1, multiply operator, term 2” won’t make much sense, as the relation of multiplication won’t hold when the 3 have seperated, and it is very unlikely that any of them would be mentioned without the other 2 at the same time.
